The noun group follows introductory it, a verb, and a noun, and is followed by a to-infinitive clause. There is sometimes a determiner or adjective before the noun.

There are two verbs which frequently occur with this pattern, give and do.Give is used with nouns referring to feelings. The nouns that most frequently have this pattern with give are:
  • buzz
  • feeling
  • pleasure
  • satisfaction
  • thrill
  • Buzz, feeling, and thrill are used with the determiner a. Pleasure and satisfaction are used without a determiner, or with a determiner such as much or no, or an adjective such as great.
    It gives me great pleasure to inform you that you have been chosen to receive a Special Cash Award.
    It gives them a thrill to play for their local club.
    Feeling is always preceded by an adjective.
    It gave him a strange feeling to know that he had at last found the place.
    Do is used with good and harm.
    It'd do us good to get away for a while.
    Harm is always used with the determiner no.
    It will do the child no harm to stay alone in bed and to cry for attention.
