Superlative adjectives

Function 3: Indicating a break

Like comparative adjectives, superlative adjectives are sometimes used to indicate a break in what is being said and to link parts of it together, although comparative adjectives are more frequently found with this function. Adjectives with meanings such as important are most frequently found with this function.

He was able to show that the pressure shift correlated with anomalies in weather all over the globe; most important, he was able to prove that droughts in India were linked to the flip of the seesaw that sent pressures down over the southeast Pacific and up in the west, over Australia and Indonesia.
The superlative adjective is sometimes followed by of all.
The region is important for two reasons. Most central of all, perhaps, is the fact that it is the most productive oil region in the north.
