The adjective is followed by a prepositional phrase which consists of on and a noun group. With some adjectives, the preposition on is sometimes followed by an '-ing' clause or a wh-clause. These patterns are ADJ on -ing and ADJ on wh.Some adjectives are sometimes followed by upon instead of on. Upon is a more formal or literary word.
