The 'famous' group

These adjectives indicate that someone or something is known to be something, or can or cannot be perceived to be something. We include here manifest, which indicates that something makes itself known.
Birmingham is famous as the home of the English industrial revolution.
In the corridor were four dirty, ragged bundles, just identifiable as human beings.
According to Philo, God's creative power was initially manifest as the Word of God.
Christmas is notorious as the best time to steal from shops and shoppers.
It was an absolute wreck - unrecognisable as an aircraft.
