The 'tantamount' group

These adjectives indicate that something is almost the case. We include here near to and next to, which are phrasal prepositions, but whose meaning is very close to the words in this group.
I'm beginning to worry that while they're close to an agreement, they've left too little time for implementing it.
The preposition to is sometimes followed by an '-ing' clause.
They complained that patenting a human gene is tantamount to patenting human life and is immoral.
