Graded and ungraded adjectives

The 'near' and 'remote' group

These adjectives indicate that something or someone is near or far away, physically or metaphorically.
Some people develop a closer relationship with their pets than with people.
I have come across lost purses on two separate occasions, and have handed them in to the nearest police station.
The idea that childhoods may not be as good as they used to be is a fairly recent one.
The report said that while popular city and tourist beaches were patrolled, many drownings occurred at more remote beaches.
