The 'awful' group

These adjectives indicate that the situation indicated by the '-ing' clause is judged to be unpleasant in some way. This includes adjectives with a general meaning, such as awful, horrible, and terrible, and those with a more specific meaning, such as boring, irritating, and frightening.
It is awful finding out that your mother may have been killed in hospital.
I never liked aerobics. It was immensely boring hopping up-and-down on the spot.
People think it must be frightening starting a downhill race at the top of a mountain.
It was unbearable living in that apartment after what had happened.
