Grammar Patterns

of N

Productive use

A large number of nouns are used with this pattern after another noun as a way of describing someone or something. The noun group often begins with an adjective or determiner, as in a country of great beauty and a novel of stunning quality. However, there is sometimes no determiner, as in a man of integrity and a woman of taste.
