Grammar Patterns: Video Guides

Our Grammar Patterns video guides

Our series of videos about grammar patterns are presented by Professor Susan Hunston of the University of Birmingham. In these videos Susan shows us how words are associated with particular types of grammatical patterning and how grammar patterns are associated with groups of words which share similar or related meanings. She also talks about the link between Pattern Grammar and collocation and how Pattern Grammar and Construction Grammar are related. In the later videos Susan describes some of the ways language teachers can heighten their learners’ awareness of patterning and gives some examples of activities which help language learners to use words and patterns correctly. More ideas and material for language teachers can be found on the resource pages.
