The 'higher' and 'lower' group

These adjectives indicate the value of something such as a currency or shares in a company when financial markets close or open. They have only Pattern 1. The adjective is often in the comparative form.
In Tokyo, stocks closed lower after thin trade.
The adjective is often followed by a prepositional phrase beginning with at or against.
In Frankfurt, the dollar opened slightly higher against the euro.
Brambles shares ended steady at $13.86 yesterday.
