The 'stock-still' group

These adjectives indicate that someone or something is in a particular physical position. They have only Pattern 1. They usually occur after the verb hang, lie, sit, or stand.
Now that you are lying flat, hold this book above and in front of you.
The car door hung open behind him.
The lieutenant stopped and stood stock-still.
The adjective knee-deep is usually followed by a prepositional phrase beginning with in. This pattern is v ADJ in n.
He has waded knee-deep in mud where roads ought to have been.
