The 'astonished' group

These adjectives indicate that someone is surprised or puzzled by the event or situation indicated in the to-infinitive clause. The to-infinitive clause often indicates that someone hears, sees, or finds out something.
Passengers will be astonished to learn that the driver of a train cannot speak to them over the tannoy system in an emergency.
They were puzzled to find the kitchen door locked.
