Chapter 2 Simple Patterns with Prepositions and AdverbsIn this chapter we describe simple verb patterns in which the verb is followed by a prepositional phrase or an adverb group. In Sections 1 to 4 we describe patterns in which the verb is followed either by a prepositional phrase introduced by a wide variety of prepositions, or by an adverb group. In Sections 5 to 34 we describe patterns in which the verb is followed by a prepositional phrase introduced by a specific preposition, such as about, to or with. These sections are ordered alphabetically, by preposition.V prep/adv, V adv/prepV advpl-n V togetherV prepV about nV across nV after nV against nV around/round nV as adjV as nV as to whV at nV between pl-nV by amountV by -ingV for nV from nV in nV in favour of nV into nV like nV of nV off nV on nV on to n, V onto nV out of nV over nV through nV to nV towards/toward nV under nV with nLess frequent patterns
