The 'fool' group

These verbs are concerned with having the wrong idea about something. The noun group following the verb is always a reflexive pronoun, and the pattern is V pron-refl about n/-ing/wh.
The preposition about is usually followed by an '-ing' clause or a wh-clause.
Were they fooling themselves about being in love in order to justify what they were doing?
In our survey, nearly a quarter agreed they deceived themselves about what they ate.
