The 'afraid' group

These adjectives indicate that someone is frightened or wary. One adjective, unafraid, indicates that someone is not frightened.
Everyone is afraid of him.
It left millions of Americans distrustful of their own government, ready to believe the worst.
She was terrified of heights.
With all these adjectives except distrustful, mistrustful, and sceptical, the preposition of is sometimes followed by an '-ing' clause.
Many people are frightened of losing their jobs.
Many people are wary of investing in share-based investments because the value can go down and they may lose money.
