The verb is followed by a prepositional phrase beginning with to, and a clause beginning with as if, as though, or like. The prepositional phrase is the prepositional Object.

All the verbs with this pattern are concerned with what something seems or feels like to someone. These verbs are also found without the prepositional phrase, in the pattern it V as if. All the verbs in this group are link verbs (see Chapter 5).
