The 'school' group

These nouns refer to places or institutions.
This use is very productive. The pattern is used with names of places, for example to Britain and with noun groups referring to places of many kinds, for example to my house, to the museum, and to the ground. It is also used to indicate that someone goes somewhere in order to attend an event, as in to a party.
The number of women sent to jail has reached a 15-year high, according to new figures released yesterday.
They went to school together every day.
'My dad told me never to go to sea,' Bill, the engineer, said, 'but I went anyway.'
