III.2 The 'walk' group
These verbs are concerned with moving or travelling. The amount indicates the distance travelled. This is a productive use: most verbs which involve moving or travelling can be used with this pattern. The verbs listed below are those which are most frequently used in this way.
ascend go jump march run swim travel walk back up
Bud said he'd back up a hundred yards, hide his truck off the road in the bushes, and head for where the action was.
He told them they would march sixty kilometers.
You could travel a long way and have nothing to show for it.
Joseph walked over four miles in temperatures of over 90 degrees.
