The 'similar' group

These adjectives indicate that two people or things are the same, or different, or that they are being compared in some way. We include here disproportionate, proportionate, and proportional, which indicate that something is larger or smaller than expected.
Some people consider the use of different with this pattern to be incorrect.
The yogis say that fifteen minutes in the shoulder stand is comparable to two hours' sleep.
'We wanted to do something different to everyone else,' Mr. Brown said.
The punishments seem grossly disproportionate to the offense.
The Gagauz are Christians and speak a language similar to Turkish.
The preposition to is sometimes followed by an '-ing' clause.
He once said that selling art was akin to selling root beer.
