The 'car' group
These nouns refer to forms of transport. They are all count nouns. We include here pipeline, which refers to a way of transporting a liquid or gas. Foot sometimes has this pattern, but it has the pattern on N much more frequently. See Section 69, meaning group 3.

Tim was transported to Nambour General Hospital by helicopter.
The Channel was first crossed by hot-air balloon in 1785.
Gas from that area is exported by pipeline to Italy.
Most mangoes are air-freighted, but the price comes down considerably if they are sent by ship.
