Combining forms

The 'ever-' group

The combining forms much- and oft- combine with past participles; ever- combines with present participles and adjectives. The adjectives formed indicate that something happens a lot of the time.
On the hills around him, the rebels, scores of whose fires could be seen burning at night, were gathering in ever-increasing strength.
The lack of entertainment for the young is another oft-quoted problem.
