Function 2: Linking clauses together

A comparative links two clauses together when only the comparative appears in one clause, without a group or clause introduced by than. The second person or thing in the comparison is mentioned or implied in a previous clause.
His pointed-toe slip-on boots unfortunately let the image down. Walking boots might have been more appropriate.
