This pattern is productive, and occurs with a wide range of verbs concerned with the consequences or implications of actions and events. For example, it occurs in clauses like It accentuates wrinkles to fill them with face-powder and It put a strain on his heart to reach up high.
In addition there are a few fairly fixed phrases with this pattern.
