The 'measles' group

These nouns refer to illnesses or other unpleasant states. We include here blues, which refers to a state of depression, giggles, which refers to uncontrollable laughter, and jitters, which refers to a state of extreme nervousness. (Croup, flu, hiccups, measles, and plague are also often used with no determiner.) Some of these are plural nouns: see Section 6, meaning group 9.
