Verbs with other meanings

There are many other verbs with this pattern. They can be divided into three groups.Verbs where something else involved in the action does not need to have been mentioned or indicated already. This includes:
    everyday activities e.g. dress, wash
    ways of earning a living e.g. act, teach
The Subject is usually a human being.
At 16, she failed to graduate, left school and announced to her family that she wanted to act.
I blew up sometimes, told him to shut up, 'cause he was so nasty.
From an early age he loved to draw and paint.
He raced down the right flank, leaving the defence standing as he scored.
But before you sell up and move, you should look long and hard at your hopes and motives.
Members of the third group have a tendency to show off, to dramatize almost every situation.
I unpacked my small case, washed and changed.
I got up early every morning and went to work and worked hard all day.
